Questions about who, what and as of what date equipment is insured
Equipment insurance is intended for both professional and amateur photographers living in The Netherlands. Policyholders who have their habitual residence in the Netherlands or, in the case of legal entities, are established in the Netherlands, can apply for equipment insurance from us.
From the day you no longer have your residential address in the Netherlands, we can no longer provide cover. We will then have to terminate the insurance as of the move date.
Our equipment insurance can be used to insure the following equipment:
- Recording equipment + accessories, such as: cameras, lenses, tripods, sound equipment.
- Monitors, recorders, players, backup systems, transportable post-production equipment.
- Lighting equipment + accessories.
- Computer equipment (portable or otherwise, including tablets such as iPads). This can only be insured if the above equipment is also insured.
- Cables, etc.
- Flight cases and other packaging material for this equipment.
- Drones (excluding flight risk).
Please note: Mobile phones cannot be included in equipment insurance.
When customers apply to take out insurance, we are required by law to carry out various checks, such as a check on your identity. Once we have carried out the checks, and they are completed positively, we send you confirmation of coverage and the commencement date. From that date on, your equipment is insured. We will start the checks immediately after your application is received and, if possible, we will use your specified commencement date.
Your equipment is insured if it is stolen from the car and there are demonstrable signs of forced entry, if you:
- have to leave your equipment in the car during your daily work or activities;
- have left the equipment in a car parked in a properly locked building, and forced entry has occurred;
- have left the equipment in a car equipped with an acoustic alarm system that was switched on.
You are only insured if you have been careful enough to avoid theft of the equipment. This means that you must have taken appropriate measures to prevent theft - such as storing the equipment in the car, out of sight.
The question, of course, is whether it is wise to leave valuable equipment in a car. In any case, you should minimise the risk by leaving as little as possible in the car, or by taking less with you if you can. A car is not considered 'storage space' for equipment, but more as a temporary contingency facility if no better storage option is available.
Computer equipment (including tablets) can only be insured if the value does not exceed the total value of the insured audiovisual equipment (such as cameras, lenses, etc.).
Equipment is covered if you lend it to a colleague, family member or friend, for example. Occasional renting out can be included as an additional cover.
Equipment of cohabiting family members can be included under the insurance. This only applies in the case of insurance taken out as a private individual.
No, phones are excluded from equipment insurance. This also applies to phones used as cameras.
Yes. If you have business insurance, your equipment is insured even if you use it privately. And this also applies the other way round.
Questions on the statement and value of equipment
Insured items are sometimes subject to a depreciation arrangement. That means the insurer will pay out less money in the event of a claim if items have depreciated in value over time or through use.
There is no depreciation arrangement for equipment insurance. The insured amount may, however, be reviewed by an expert.
In principle, we want to have the serial numbers of as many items as possible. Not all equipment has a serial number, in which case enter an 'x' on the equipment specification here.
If you have business insurance, you can (in most cases) deduct VAT. You then give us the insured value excluding VAT.
If you are insured as a private individual, enter the insured value including VAT.
If you have business insurance but you nevertheless entered the insured value inclusive of VAT when you can offset VAT, in the event of a claim you will be paid the claim amount excluding VAT.
The insured value is determined based on the information you provide. This can be the (original) new value, but also the second-hand value. We recommend using the amount you paid. In the event of damage, the insured amount can then easily be proved by means of the purchase invoice (new or second-hand). If you no longer have the purchase receipt, you will have to prove the value in another way (photo of bank statement or correspondence from Marktplaats.nl, etc.).
If you don't have any proof of purchase, you can take a photo of the item showing the serial number and keep it in your own records, for example. In the event of a claim, we may request this. We do not require purchase receipts to take out equipment insurance.
Questions on additional cover
There are two options for changing the coverage area:
- Temporary extension of coverage area: The coverage area can be temporarily extended once a year for a period of up to one month. If you would like to make use of this, email us your policy number, destination, purpose of travel and travel period, and we will send you a premium quote, and if you agree to it, we will enter it on the policy schedule.
- Permanent coverage area extension: You can only give notice of a permanent extension of the coverage area through the website. This then applies until at least the contract expiry date (1 April). This is intended for situations in which you travel outside the insured coverage area more than once a year.
It is not possible to take this out temporarily. The cover remains in effect until at least the contract expiry date (1 April).
You can include leased equipment in the equipment specification. We consider this equipment to be owned equipment. Any claims payments will be paid to you.
- Caravan:
A caravan is considered a properly lockable space. Theft from a caravan is insured if there are demonstrable signs of forced entry. - Mobile home:
A mobile home is a motor vehicle. The same rules apply for this as for leaving equipment in the car (see article 5.1 in the terms and conditions). - Tent:
When using a tent, cover cannot be offered for equipment left unattended in the tent. In such cases, equipment should be left in a car with an alarm.
Equipment insurance can be supplemented with the 'non-owned equipment' cover. This cover is for rented or loaned equipment. The option can be added through the website. It is only possible to opt for this additional cover in combination with insurance for owned equipment. It is continuous cover. The annual premium for this is:
- Insured amount up to €5,000: The Netherlands €50 / Europe €60 / World €75
- Insured amount up to €10,000: The Netherlands €100 / Europe €120 / World €150
- Insured amount up to €15,000: The Netherlands €150 / Europe €180 / World €225
- Insured amount up to €20,000: The Netherlands €200 / Europe €240 / World €300
- Insured amount up to €25,000: The Netherlands €250 / Europe €300 / World €375
This additional cover is subject to the same deductible as that for owned equipment. Any discount for an increased deductible will be offset against the above premium. If you have opted for the 'land war risk' additional cover, then this cover also applies to the non-owned equipment and a surcharge is applied to the above premium.
With this additional cover, the risk you run when renting out equipment professionally is insured. This cover is for occasional rental of equipment intended for personal use only. The premium surcharge for this is 25%.
If you take your equipment into war zones, you may choose to take out this additional cover. If your equipment is damaged due to war risks (on land), you will be compensated for such damage. The premium surcharge for this is 25% for the Netherlands and Europe cover and 50% for global cover.
Questions on collectivity benefits
If you are a paying member of one of the following organisations, you can access collectivity benefits:
- PiXFactory
- Natuurfotografie Magazine
- Filmpeople / Filmstart
- Nikon Club the Netherlands
- Photofacts Academy
- VERS
- NVJ
If you have taken out the collective equipment insurance and your membership with one of our member organisations ends, we kindly ask you to notify us. We will then convert the insurance to the standard contract.
If you are a member of one of the listed organisations, you can access the following benefits:
- Minimum premium of €70 per year.
- Standard deductible of €100 per event (instead of €200). The deductible for fall and impact damage remains €250 per occurrence.
Or:

Questions about online submission of changes and online claim reporting
In the unlikely event of damage, we request that you report the damage using the online claim form on the website of our partner DSV.
Please also submit:
- the purchase receipt for the damaged item;
- the purchase receipt for the replacement item (as appropriate);
- an itemised repair bill. If repair is not possible, then please submit a statement showing that the repair costs exceed the insured value. You are required to then send the damaged equipment to us, upon request;
- a copy of the police report.
You can add the documents to the online claim form or send them by email to schade@norisk.eu.
